Is there a correlation between speaking position and rank?

Across all events, if you are the 4th speaker, you are almost certainly at a disadvantage.

This web app randomly selects a number of tournaments and averages out the ranks for each speaker position. The sampling procedure is very naive, and the results should be taken with a grain of salt.

The data were fetched from Joy of Tournaments. The code draws from the last three Speech and Debate seasons and only takes into account tournaments with exactly 6 final speakers. When you choose tournaments from all states, the data are selected as a cluster sample. Numbers are rounded to 2 decimal places.

Try selecting a considerably large number of tournaments (e.g., 1000) for more accuracy. This may stall your browser temporarily as it is calculating.
